DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department is looking for a Staff Epidemiologist-Specialist to perform the following duties:

• Conducts and coordinates syndromic surveillance project protocols and implements quality assurance tools according to specific time frames and budget constraints, with minimal supervision
• Validates HL7 messages according to PHIN messaging guide for syndromic surveillance.
• Onboards hospitals for syndromic surveillance activities through stakeholder engagement
• Represents the informatics program in the syndromic surveillance consortium and provides training to the participants of the consortium
• Ensures timely publication of routine surveillance reports
• Provides support to management in obtaining and analyzing data for the purposes of surveillance program evaluation
• Actively researches funding opportunities and prepares proposals to seek funding for Bureau programs/projects
• Engages in public speaking and presentations to stakeholders
